Claire Jervert, Real Worlding
About the video:
In a series of vignettes, we take a little trip to a real-life billionaire bunker, located 200 ft. (61 meters) below ground. From the entrance, surrounded by a desolate wasteland, and then into a descending elevator, we visit the living room/kitchen, the "aquaponics farm," and finally the "beach." The individual sequences were created by recording what was being viewed through a VR headset while experiencing 360-degree videos that were shot in the bunker. The title, "Real Worlding," seeks to draw a contrast between a number of current virtual/metaverse experiences that tend more toward optimistic speculative futures, rather than investigating the unsettling near-implausibility of our current reality. Behind it all are two disturbing feelings: the unlikelihood of ever leaving this place in the event of its utilization and, perhaps more pertinent, where you yourself are likely to be in such a situation.
